The Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, appointed Lucian Taropa as a temporary member of the Board of Directors of the Civil Aviation Authority, according to the institution’s website. Taropa is the former administrative director of Timisoara airport, replaced in 2020 by General Doru Gradinaru, the former general manager of Timisoara airport, who was also replaced at the end of last year, after Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu demanded his resignation.
Lucian Taropa is friends with the family of the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu. They appear in photos published in the press, on vacation, in Italy or Switzerland, together with their wives.
„First of all, it is a temporary, temporary appointment. Then there’s a man with aviation experience“, Sorin Grindeanu declared for G4media.ro. The Minister of Transport denied that Taropa’s appointment had anything to do with their friendship.
In addition, the wives of the two, Tiana Taropa and Teodora Grindeanu, are partners in the company Duofarm SRL from Dumbrăviţa Timiş, which operates, among others, a pharmacy in Timişoara, according to the company’s documents published in the Official Gazette. Teodora Grindeanu holds 49% of the shares, and Tiana Taropa, 51%.

In addition, according to Lucian Taropa’s 2012 wealth declaration, he was also employed by Duofarm SRL. Taropa lent Sorin Grindeanu 20,000 euros.

In 2012, Lucian Taropa became a local councilor in Timişoara from PP-DD, then he joined PSD in 2014. In 2013, he also became marketing director at Timişoara airport. In 2017, after Sorin Grindeanu became the Prime Minister of Romania, Lucian Taropa was appointed as a temporary member in the Board of Directors of the Administration of Navigable Canals SA Constanța and in the Board of Directors of the National Freight Railway Company “CFR Marfă” SA .
