“It’s a dream, but let’s dream”: will Neymar return to his great love Santos this summer?

Neymar (32) made his return last month after almost a year of injuries. He did this at Al Hilal, where his contract only runs until the summer of 2025. The Brazilian has no intention of extending his monster contract in Saudi Arabia, so a transfer-free departure beckons.

He hasn’t been able to play much since his return. Neymar Jr only participated in the Asian Champions League, as the Brazilian was not included in Al Hilal’s selection list for the national competition due to his injury. The club can only adjust that list in January, and from then on the dribbling king can also make minutes there.

If it were up to him, he wouldn’t be playing in the desert for much longer. His contract expires this summer and the ex-Barcelona striker is said to be already looking for a new club. Without playing much football, he would have easily made 160 million euros in two years. Not bad at all.

So there is no shortage of money, and Neymar wants to be able to enjoy the game again at his next destination.

Brazil, or reunification of MSN?

Then two options lurk around the corner: return to Santos – the place where it all started – or go for a reunion with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at Inter Miami. The first option in particular seems realistic. The club recently returned to the highest level in Brazil, and is waiting with open arms for his arrival.

The vice-chairman of the board of directors was very clear when talking about Neymar: “He will come in June. That’s the conversation we’re having.” Even the coach has spoken out about a possible return. “It would be great to have him. It’s a dream, but let’s dream.”

He is also more than welcome at Inter Miami – nowadays a kind of Barcelona for veterans. The Brazilian has never played better than alongside Messi and Suárez, and both gentlemen are now spending time in sunny Florida. With Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, he would meet two other former teammates.

Neymar still has one big goal in mind: winning the World Cup with the Seleção. 2026 seems to be his last chance. Will he prepare himself on home soil or in the country where the tournament will take place in a year and a half?

New injury?

Neymar suffered a right thigh injury in an Asian Champions League match with his Saudi club Al-Hilal on Monday.

The 32-year-old Brazilian had come on after an hour against Iranian Esteghlal with a 2-0 score after two goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic (ex-Anderlecht). In the final phase, a few minutes after being treated on the sideline, the striker left the field again while feeling his right leg.
