He was born in Syrian Antioch, in a Greek-Syrian noble family. He is called “Chrysostom” because of his eloquence. He was canonized a saint in 438 after years of persecution for the true faith by his opponents. The relics of St. John Chrysostom are kept at the headquarters of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople, Turkey, in the church of St. George. So far, more than 1,900 manuscripts with the works of the archbishop have been preserved.
