The Salesian Alumni Technical Institute Foundation (ITEXSAL) filed a formal accusation this morning against the former mayor of San Miguel, Wilfredo Salgado, for the alleged crime of defamation, since he allegedly said that the State money received by the institution founded by deputy Reynaldo Carballo is for political purposes.

“The ITEXAL Foundation has based its accusation on all the conversations that this man has irresponsibly issued, alleging or claiming in an irresponsible manner that the money or public funds given to the Foundation are used for situations that are not proper to the Foundation, that is, for political situations,” commented the lawyer María José Castro of the Foundation who arrived at the Isidro Menéndez Judicial Center.

In this context, he explained that the Foundation “will clarify that the funds are transparent and that their management is specifically for the scholarships.” The Foundation’s intention is for Will Salgado to pay the amount of 3 million dollars, which would be used for the improvement or scholarships for young people and future professionals at the university level.

The foundation’s arguments are based on “all the conversations they have had through social media and on different platforms.” However, it did not go into detail about which social media networks or on which dates.

The lawsuit could be due to the fact that on August 12, on the Pulso Ciudadano program, the former councilman commented that Carballo has a non-governmental organization, but the problem was that the Legislative Assembly had given him more than a million dollars for scholarships in the last 6 years. “Which is the only school that the foundation buys scholarships for? It buys scholarships for its own school, it doesn’t buy scholarships for another school,” Salgado commented at that time.

The ITEXAL Foundation has received state funds for years; this year, 2024, the institution of the deputy allied to the ruling party will receive $400 thousand, allegedly for scholarships. The foundation requested that the lawsuit be kept confidential, allegedly to protect the identity and integrity of young scholarship recipients.
