JurnalPost.com – On October 9, 2024, the Sumatra Institute of Technology Pharmacy Research Program (ITERA) held a community outreach regarding the management of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in East Gading Rejo Village, Gading Rejo District, Pringsewu Regency, Lampung. This activity is part of the campus’s efforts to support public health through the grant program ITERA 2024 Student Creativity Program (PKM) Located at Balai Pekon Gading Rejo Timur, about 36 residents attended at the activity who was very enthusiastic about participating in the event. counseling
The activity started with remarks from the Head of Pekon Gading Rejo Timur, Mr. Ambar Andayono. In his speech, he expressed his high appreciation for this program, as the risk of dengue fever continues to increase with changes in seasons and an increase in the population of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, as the main vector that spreads the disease. “I am grateful that I can return to Pekon Gading Rejo Timur to raise the topic of dengue fever again. Said Apt. Novrilia Atika Nabila, S.Farm., M.Clin.Farm. in his speech.
The first material was delivered by two pharmacy lecturers, which is appropriate. Nurul Irna Windari, S.Pharm., M.Clin.Pharm. and appropriate. Novrilia Atika Nabila, S.Pharm., M.Clin.Pharm. provides an in-depth understanding of dengue fever. They explained that dengue fever is a disease caused by dengue virus infection which is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. One of the main complications of DHF is a significant reduction in platelet levels in the blood, which can cause thrombocytopenia – a condition of lower platelet levels in the blood that can be fatal if not treated properly. Both presenters also emphasized the importance of early detection and appropriate treatment when dealing with dengue fever symptoms. Residents are invited to be more alert for symptoms such as high fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, as well as the appearance of red spots on the skin, which are typical symptoms of dengue fever.
The second item was delivered by apt. Riri Fauziyya, S. Farm., M. Farm. which introduces a natural ingredient-based approach to help treat thrombocytopenia due to dengue fever. Red rice and guava leaves are one of the natural ingredients that have been widely studied and proven to be effective in increasing platelet levels. Angkak is the result of the fermentation of red rice by the fungus Monascus purpureus, which contains bioactive ingredients that stimulate the formation of platelets. suitable Riri Fauziyya, S. Farm., M. Farm. explains that red rice contains monacolin K which may increase platelet production in the bone marrow. Guava leaves contain flavonoid compounds and quercetin, which can prevent platelet damage by free radicals and accelerate platelet recovery. The use of this natural substance is not only safe, but also affordable and accessible to the public.
Not only giving theory, this advice is accompanied by direct practice in the form of demonstrations on making products based on natural ingredients. In this session, Mrs. Annisa Maulidia Rahayyu, S.Farm., MSFarm. and a suitable mother. Putri Amelia Rooswita, S.Farm., M.Farm., led a demonstration on making “Thrombocaps” capsules, an innovative product that combines red rice and guava leaves in capsule form to increase platelet levels. The participants were introduced to the manufacturing steps starting from the process of preparation of materials, mixing of materials, to the process of capture.
This exhibition aims not only to provide knowledge about the technology for making herbal products, but also to empower people to be able to make similar products independently. The Sumatra Institute of Technology even gave the people of Pekon Gading Rejo Timur several basic tools to make Thrombocaps, so that this village could develop this product as an independent solution in dealing with dengue fever.
This outreach activity not only involved lecturers, but also students from the ITERA Pharmacy Research Programme, namely RA Adila Fatma Kinanti, Azra Azreena Nursyahfira, Kaylla Rasikha Jasmine, Kais Kaila Ladeva Putri, Thania Raya Tri Moerbi, Ni Putu Laura Gloria, Iqbal Pangestu, and Randi Wibowo. The students helped by doing activities, from preparing materials to helping residents during the practical session to make Thrombocaps capsules. It is hoped that student participation in this activity will increase students’ practical experience in the field of clinical pharmacy and community empowerment.
With this outreach activity, it is hoped that the people of Pekon Gading Rejo Timur will be more aware of the risk of dengue fever and will know effective ways to overcome a decrease in platelets with natural ingredients that available around them. It is also hoped that this collaboration between lecturers, students and the community will be the first step towards the development of local herbal products that are beneficial in a sustainable way. “Over the past two years, I have had a good impression of Pekon Gading Rejo Timur Village because it has welcomed us here. The previous year, preventive counseling was done with the topic of preventing dengue fever, so this time the counseling is with the topic of curative prevention of dengue fever. “We hope that the delivery of goods and exhibitions made in Pekon Gading Rejo Timur will continue,” said Apt.
Novrilia Atika Nabila, S.Farm., M.Clin.Farm. It is hoped that the town will be able to produce “Thrombocaps” independently and continue to maintain the stability of the health programs that have been started. Therefore, this activity not only increases residents’ knowledge about dengue fever, but also empowers them to seek natural solutions to face health challenges independently.
