The Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals will feature last year’s winner Canada, runner-up Italy, host country Spain, and wild card Czech Republic (recommended by the organizer), as well as the preliminary round in April of this year. A total of 12 countries, including Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and the United States, will compete to become the world’s number one in a tournament format. The match will consist of two singles matches and one doubles match, with the winner being the first to win two matches.
In the first singles match in Italy, L. Bronzetti (Italy), ranked 78th in the world, defeated V. Kuzmova (Slovakia), ranked 238th in the world, to win first.
In the second singles match, J. Paolini (Italy), ranked 4th in the world, easily defeated R. Slamkova (Slovakia), ranked 43rd in the world, 6-2, 6-1, marking Italy’s fifth victory in 11 years. He achieved victory.
The women’s tennis association’s WTA official website posted comments from T. Galvin (Italy), captain of the Italian team, after the match.
