The Dutch volleyball players started the match better. Already in one of the first actions, Nimir Abdel-Aziz scored with a serve (1:3). Later it was 3:6, but after playing a few more actions it seemed that the Italians had the situation under control (7:7). At 14:12, an extremely important situation occurred for the fate of the set. Roberto Russo suffered an injury, which seriously disturbed his teammates. The Orange team took advantage of this and gained an advantage (16:20). They looked good in the service box, another ace was sent by Abdel-Aziz (17:22), who closed the set with an effective attack (19:25).

In the second part, the Italian volleyball players had the advantage from the beginning (10:7). This time the serve was the advantage of the hosts – aces were scored by Yuri Romano (13:9), Alessandro Michieletto (19:14), and then Romano again (22:16). The Italians were also more effective in attack and ended the set with a point block (25:17).
Set number three – without history. The Orange team only kept pace with their opponents at the beginning. The Italians quickly imposed their game. In the middle part of the set, after a series of four won actions, they were leading 16:8 and from then on they controlled the situation. The 25:16 victory was sealed by Romano’s effective attack.
The Dutch woke up at the beginning of the fourth set (2:5, 5:8). Later we watched the show performed by Abdel-Aziz – he added two attacks to two aces and the score was 8:14. Later, the hosts were losing 10:17, but they started chasing the result and reduced the difference to two points (17:19). After a point serve by Fabian Plak, the score was 17:21, but the Italians did not give up, they made contact (22:23) and the end brought a lot of emotions. Bennie Tuinstra won the set ball, the rivals fought back, but in the next action they made an attacking error (23:25).
The last semi-finalist of the European Championship 2023 was selected in a tie-break. The Dutch scored the first points thanks to Abdel-Aziz’s serves (0:2), but the hosts quickly took the lead. When Romano served on the ninth meter line, the score was 7-5. The Italians maintained their advantage, but their opponents did not give up. The fierce match ended with the hosts winning 15:12, and in the last action Daniele Lavia hit the opponent’s block.
