National team coach Italy, Roberto Mancini, said that his team was very confident looking at the 2020 European Cup. This event was also the beginning of a new era for Italy.
Italy returns to major tournaments after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. On its way to Euro 2020, The Azzurri unbeaten since September 2018.
In their last 27 matches, Italy has never lost. They recorded 22 wins and five draws.
Roberto Mancini believes Euro 2020 will be the start of a new era in the Italian national team. He also looked at this tournament with high confidence.
“I was confident three years ago when I arrived, now I have more confidence,” Mancini told a news conference as reported by Football Italia.
“We are working well, we have talented players and a sense of unity. We are enjoying it and we want to continue like that.”
“When we finally get to London we’ll talk about it, but I feel very confident.”
Italy, who are in Group A of Euro 2020, will play their opening match against Turkey. Mancini hopes his team can overcome the pressure of the first game.
“The first game is always the most difficult. We have to get rid of the pressure and not think about other things, focus on our task and what we have to finish,” said Mancini.
“There will be a bit of pressure because it’s the opening match of the tournament and Turkey is full of talented players, but it’s still a football game and we have to focus on that,” he said.
