With 26 countries taking part in the Eurovision final, the winner of the TV viewers’ and jury’s vote was Italy’s Zitti E Buoni, performed by Måneskin.
This year, a new voting system was in place: the vote of each country’s jury, which was played live on TV, was made public, and the audience vote was collected separately.
In the vote of the jury In the final, fierce competition between Italy, Switzerland, Malta, France and Iceland – these countries were already named “Eurovision” bookmakers as favorites. The Latvian jury returned its 12 maximum points to Switzerland, and Switzerland also won the joint jury vote.
The characteristics of the leaders were noticeably changed by the calls gathered by viewers all over Europe and beyond – Eurovision fans mostly echoed the vision of professionals, but also took care of surprises. Suddenly Lithuania took the lead, but the victory “did not shine” for them. Also, suddenly Finland came to the top of the vote with its own song, a moment later also Ukraine. The Maltese representative was not rated as highly by the audience as the jury.
European in a public vote The best song of this year was recognized by the Italian “Zitti E Buoni”, winning it overall.
Couple “Moonlight”: In 2017, they shone in Italy’s local “Factor”, where they won second place. Their victory in the Sanremo competition was considered by many to be a surprise, but now it seems to have been a logical outcome. This year, the representatives of Italy at the “Eurovision” charmed in all ways – with a strong song, refined and tasteful style, great performance and a grandiose stage show, complemented by almost all possible pyrotechnics. Those who followed Eurovision more diligently certainly added the soloist Damiano’s gaze, voice and stage hug to the list of benefits. Their victory at the Sanremo Festival seemed a surprise to many, but now no one doubts that Maneskin was the right choice for Italy to bring the contest to the Apennines for the first time since the legendary Toto Kotunjo’s victory in 1990.
We remind you that the representative of Latvia Samanta Tīna with the song “The Moon is Rising” this year did not qualify for the “Eurovision” final.
