Italy sees record-breaking gasoline prices as costs soar – Assoutenti raises concern

Gasoline in served mode has already broken through the psychological ceiling of 2.5 euros per liter in some Italian distributors, with the aggravating circumstance that the new record prices are recorded not on motorways, where fuel prices are notoriously higher, but on ordinary network. For now these are just a few cases but the increase in the cost of fuel is nevertheless widespread and in just 6 weeks the national average price of green has increased by +5.3%, diesel by +6.3% and in full it costs five euros more since the beginning of the year.

The complaint comes today from Assoutenti, which analyzed the latest public prices communicated by the managers to Mimit and published on the ministry’s website. In short, from the data released by the association a few days ago, the same situation appears again that before the summer pushed the government to intervene with the much contested decree on cartels for the average price of fuel.

“Checking the data released on the Mimit fuel price monitor and referring to the date of February 16, there is a strong increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, with some distributors selling green fuel at prices already above 2.5 euros per litre. – explains Assoutenti -. This is the case, for example, of a pump located in Taranto, where petrol costs 2.537 euros per litre, diesel 2.447 euros/litre. Even in the province of Benevento, petrol served has exceeded 2.5 euros per litre, and is sold at 2.522 euros, while the highest price among those recorded goes to a distributor in the province of Palermo which, based on the latest data but still valid on 15 February, was selling a liter of greenery at 2.565 euros, 2.495 euro/litre diesel.

In some distributors located in the provinces of Bergamo, Milan and Cuneo, petrol, always served, exceeds 2.4 euros, and is sold at prices between 2.404 and 2.420 euros/litre – adds Assoutenti, who however underlines that many distributors do not communicate price lists to Mimit in a timely manner, with the consequence that prices are not always updated.

On the motorway network, as of February 16, the most expensive petrol is that sold on the A21 near Piacenza: 2,499 euros per litre. On the A12 Sestri L.-Livorno the green one reaches 2,429 euros per litre, 2,419 euros per liter on the A55, 2,405 euros/litre on the A8/A26 branch and on the A4 Milan-Brescia.

“In just a few weeks, fuel prices have increased significantly, to the point that today a full tank of petrol costs almost 5 euros more than at the beginning of the year, while for a full tank of diesel you spend 5.5 euros more. – reports the president of Assoutenti, Gabriele Melluso – In just 6 weeks the national average price of green fuel has increased by +5.3%, diesel by +6.3%, and beyond the extreme cases where the price lists exceed 2 .5 euros per litre, the real risk is that the new wave of increases at the pump will lead to an inflationary spiral through an increase in the retail prices of goods that travel by road and which represent 88% of the goods sold in Italy”.
