The Aostas Public Prosecutor’s Office, in northwestern Italy, began an investigation against a doctor who rescued his cat, submitting it to CT scan at the hospital in which he works.
The doctor is named Gianloukas Fancell and is in charge of the Radiological Department of Aosta Hospital. As he explained, he decided to submit the cat to CT scan, during which patients’ tests were completed after 8pm.
The pet is called “Athena” and had fallen from a sixth floor balcony. The veterinarian who visited her found that she had suffered multiple wounds, lung detachment and, possibly, pneumothorax.
“I submitted Athena to a computed tomography that lasted only a few seconds and, assessing the severity of the pneumothorax, I proceeded with the removal of the liquid. Something that has finally allowed her to resume again to breathe normally and recover, slowly, all her strengths, “the doctor explained.
Gianlouka Fancell added that he was willing, if asked, to pay the costs corresponding to the use of the CT scan, while many of his colleagues – doctors and nurses – wanted to express their solidarity.
