In just three weeks, the number of those who tested positive for the coronavirus in Italy has doubled. The number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals is also rising continuously, the government is relying on third-party vaccinations and the extension of Green Passes and the emergency.
Increasing numbers of infections
Once again, more than 2,800 new corona infections were recorded in Italy in just 24 hours. 41 Covid-19 patients have died in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate is currently 1.2 percent.
The burden on hospitals with Covid patients is also increasing. 385 patients need intensive care, 21 more than on Monday. 2,992 Covid patients are in the normal wards of hospitals. That is 129 more than on Monday.
Booster vaccination for people over 50 years of age
In order to keep the situation under control and to contain another, bad pandemic wave, the Ministry of Health wants to gradually extend the booster vaccination to younger age groups. State Secretary Andrea Costa assumes that by the end of the year people over 50 can register for a further vaccination, provided that the previous vaccination was six months ago.
School staff should receive a preferential splint for the booster vaccinations (every six months after the last vaccination).
The green pass requirement can only be lifted when 90 percent of the population has been vaccinated against the coronavirus, said special commissioner Francesco Figliuolo. That is exactly what you aim for. Until then, the green pass requirement will continue to apply. The state of emergency is also to be extended to March for the time being in order to limit the effects of another wave of pandemics. This simplifies regulations on mask compulsory and keeping your distance and also enables measures such as the continuation of smartworking.
