Italy reduces to 17,012 new cases, Spain with a record 52,188 cases and the United Kingdom comes close to 21,000 – Executive Digest

These are the figures for the last 24 hours regarding the situation caused by Covid-19 in Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Italy

Italy today registered 17,012 infections with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a lower number than the day before, when the Government is advising citizens not to travel abroad.

On Sunday, more than 21,000 positive cases had been recorded, with today’s numbers responding to the predictable reduction on Mondays, when fewer diagnostic tests are carried out.

According to the Italian Ministry of Health, 141 people died of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 37,479.

In total, 542,789 people have been infected since the beginning of the health crisis in Italy, with 236,000 active cases, most of them in residential isolation, with mild or no symptoms.

The pressure on hospitals continues to increase, with an additional 1,607 cases of hospitalization in the last 24 hours, increasing the number of hospitalized patients to 14,281, including 1,284 in intensive care (76 more than on Sunday).

Today, new restrictive measures came into force to combat the pandemic, namely the closing of bars, restaurants and other catering establishments at 18:00, until November 24th.

The Government is also advising citizens not to travel outside the country, “except for strictly necessary reasons”, given the increase in cases of the new coronavirus in Europe, warning about the possibility of tightening of restrictive measures.

Spain

The Spanish Ministry of Health reported this Monday that the country added 52,188 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus to the cumulative total of cases, now totaling 1,098,320. This value corresponds to the weekend, since on Saturday and Sunday there is no update of the data.

The total number of deaths added 279 deaths, bringing the cumulative total to 35,031.

As detailed in the director from the Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies, Fernando Simon, cited by El País, the incidence rate is now 410 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Spain has been in a State of Emergency since last Sunday, which will remain in force for six months, until April from 2021.

United Kingdom

In the last 24 hours, an additional 20,890 positive cases of infection with the new coronavirus have been reported in the UK, which now totals 894,690 diagnoses of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic.

102 more people died from Covid-19 in the UK, bringing the number of deaths to 44,998. It is the biggest increase in the number of deaths, on a Monday, since May 25, when 104 deaths were registered. Of the latest deaths, 90 have occurred in England, six in Wales, five in Northern Ireland and one in Scotland.

The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 1.1 million deaths and more than 43 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
