These are the figures for the last 24 hours regarding the epidemiological situation in Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain.
Italy
Italy recorded 603 deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, a number within the average of the last few days, and 10,497 new cases, at a time when the state of emergency was prolonged in the country until April 30.
The increase in deaths, of more than 603, raises the balance to 83,157 deaths since the beginning of the health emergency in mid-February 2020. The total number of infections is fixed at 2,400,598.
Pressure on hospitals continues to increase: of the 535,524 people currently infected, despite the vast majority being isolated at home with few symptoms, 22,699 patients were hospitalized, of which 2,487 were in intensive care units.
UK
The UK recorded 33,355 new covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as well as 1,610 deaths, a new record, according to the British Ministry of Health, cited by Sky News. Since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, 91,470 deaths from covid-19 and 3,467,049 cases have been officially recorded.
The high number of cases and deaths is attributed to the new variant of SARS-Cov-2, considered up to 70% more contagious, and which dictated the introduction of a confinement in the region of London and south-east England since Sunday. Last week the minister of health confirmed cases of another mutation even more communicable from South Africa.
In addition, the country still registers a total of 4,062,501 people who have already received the first dose of the vaccine against the new coronavirus, according to the latest data provided by the British Ministry of Health.
These figures compare to the others released on Monday of 599 daily deaths and 37,535 new confirmed cases. According to the UK’s National Institute of Statistics, at least one in eight people in England had COVID-19 by December last year.
Spain
Spain recorded 34,291 new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected people in the country to 2,370,742 so far, according to figures released by the Spanish Ministry of Health.
Health authorities have also recorded 404 more deaths since Monday attributed to covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 54,173.
The level of accumulated incidence (people infected) in Spain continues to rise, going from Monday to Tuesday from 689 to 714 cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous 14 days.
The Covid-19 pandemic has infected more than 95.7 million people in 191 countries and territories worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University in the United States. Additionally, the virus caused more than two million fatalities.
