KONTAN.CO.ID – ROMA. Italy has recorded 5,372 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours. The Health Ministry’s report on Friday (9/10) marks the first time Italy has surpassed 5,000 cases in one day since March.

Italy recorded 28 Covid-19-related deaths on Friday compared to 22 the previous day. This figure is far less than the peak of the pandemic in Italy in March and April.

Italy is the first country in Europe to be hit by Covid-19 and has the second-highest death toll on the continent. Italy has recorded 36,111 deaths since the outbreak struck in February.

Thanks to one of the tightest lockdowns in the world, the government managed to contain contagion in the summer. But new infections have been on the rise over the past three months and are now increasing strongly, doubling in the last week.

Thursday (8/10) is the first time Italy has recorded more than 4,000 daily cases since April 12.

Even so, Italy still recorded far fewer daily cases than several other major European countries, such as France, Spain and the UK.

The last time Italy recorded more than 5,000 cases a day was on March 29, with 5,217 infections reported in the middle lockdown national. On the same day, 756 people died.
