A negative contingency happened last night, during the broadcast of the second semi-final of Eurovision by the Italian public television Rai. Shortly before the end of the show, along with the names of the presenters and the technicians responsible for the broadcast, the viewers also read some of the percentages of the Italian public’s vote.
More specifically, it was revealed that the Israeli singer Eden Golan secured, yesterday, the first place, with 39.31% of the votes of the Italian public and the Dutchman Joost Klein the second, with a rate of 7.32%.
The Italian press underlines, in fact, that this particular event may have contributed to increasing the chances of Golan’s final victory, at least according to the betting offices.
Rai immediately explained the error was due to a technical problem and that not all of the voting data was transmitted. At the same time, he apologized to the EBU and added that the incident will not affect the final result.
According to Eurovision regulations, all details of the TV audience’s votes can only be revealed after the end of each contest. The matter is expected to be discussed by the European Broadcasting Corporation in the coming days, although it is assumed that the error was not intentional.
