The bill envisages tougher action against climate activists and migrants.
The draft law, for example, provides for prison terms and a fine of up to 300,000 euros for anyone who obstructs roads or railways. But even tougher penalties are in store for those who deliberately delay the implementation of “strategically important” infrastructure projects, such as the Italian-French TAV high-speed rail project and the construction of a bridge connecting the island of Sicily to the mainland -great Italy.
The bill also provides for criminal liability for companies that sell SIM cards to people who do not have identity documents and residence permits.
The largest and most influential trade union in Italy “Cgil” believes that the bill is dangerous because it will threaten the most peaceful forms of protest and narrow the space for democracy in Italy.
On the other hand, opposition politicians have warned that the security bill is an attack on individual and collective freedom.
