Italy make home debut by beating USA

Italy, supported by their home crowd in Turin, successfully entered the Davis Cup by beating the United States with resounding victories from Lorenzo Sonego and then Jannik Sinner in both singles.

Sonego (27th in the world) led the way by playing “the best tennis of (his) life“to beat Reilly Opelka (ATP 26) 6-3, 7-6 (7/4).

He was imitated in the wake by Sinner (ATP 10) who humiliated John Isner (ATP 24) 6-2, 6-0 in 1:02. A match concluded on an ace from Sinner – his only one of the match – which left his opponent unresponsive.

For the classification of the group, the Italian double Simone Bolleli / Fabio Fognini still has to face his American counterpart Rajeev Ram / Jack Sock. Colombia completes Group E.
