Italy has imposed impressive fines on Amazon and Apple

The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) fined US internet giant Amazon and information technology company Apple a total of 200 million euros on Tuesday for violating competition rules.

Apple has a fine of € 134.5 million and Amazon has a fine of € 68.7 million.

The AGCM notes that an agreement between the two companies in 2018 has prevented official and unofficial resellers of Apple and Beats products from using Amazon.it.

The purpose of this agreement was to limit the number of retailers and the volume of cross-border trade, the administration explains.

Consumers have suffered as a result of the agreement, as at least 70% of electronics purchased in Italy were purchased on Amazon.
