MADRID, 23 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Italian Competition and Markets Guarantor Authority (AGCM) has sanctioned the technology companies Apple and Amazon with 203.2 million euros for having agreed to restrict the sale of products by third companies, as reported on Tuesday it’s a statement.
Specifically, the regulatory authority has sanctioned Amazon with 68.7 million euros, while Apple will have to pay a fine of 134.5 million euros. Likewise, it has ordered both multinationals to desist from these practices.
The sanction has focused on the agreement that Amazon and Apple signed in 2018. Under this agreement, Amazon accepted Apple’s conditions to prohibit third-party companies from selling Apple products and those of the Beats brand, also owned by the company, on its website. firm directed by Tim Cook.
The AGCM has concluded that the agreement was intended to quantitatively restrict a certain number of sellers, so that only Amazon and other selected companies could operate on the e-commerce giant’s website.
The impact of this measure was high, according to the Authority, because 70% of purchases of electronic products in Italy are made on Amazon.
Last July, the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) opened a sanctioning file against Amazon and Apple for having reached a similar agreement on the Spanish Amazon website.
