These are the figures for the last 24 hours regarding the epidemiological situation in Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain.
Italy
Italy recorded 246 deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, a number within the average of the last few days, and 13,114 new cases, at a time when the state of emergency was prolonged in the country until April 30.
The number of deaths has increased to 97,945 since the start of the health emergency in mid-February 2020. The total number of infections is set at 2,938,093.
The pressure on hospitals remains high: 19,112 patients have been hospitalized, of which 2,289 are in intensive care units. The regions with the highest daily increase in cases today were: Lombardy, Campania and Piedmont.
UK
The UK has registered 5,455 new cases of covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the British Ministry of Health. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,182,009 cases have been officially registered. In addition, 104 daily deaths are also counted, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 122,953.
The high number of cases and deaths (from the last few days) is attributed to the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 considered up to 70% more contagious and which dictated the introduction of a confinement in the London and south east England region.
The British government recently announced that the deflation will start gradually, allowing for a possible return to normality on 21 June, since vaccination against viral disease has been going as planned.
Spain
Spain has registered 15,978 cases of covid-19 since Friday, maintaining the downward trend of new contagions and increasing the total number of infected people in the country to 3,204,531 so far, according to figures released by the Spanish Ministry of Health.
Health authorities also accounted for another 467 deaths over the weekend attributed to covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 69,609.
The number of new cases dropped from the previous weekend to 20,849 to 15,978 and that of deaths from 535 to 467.
The level of accumulated incidence (contagions) in Spain continues to fall, having gone from Friday to today from 194 to 176 cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous 14 days.
The pandemic has already infected more than 114.2 million people in 192 countries and territories worldwide, according to the independent count by Johns Hopkins University. In addition, the virus has caused more than 2.5 million fatalities.
