Italy divided in two between storms and the first African flare-up

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 13 – In the next few days Italy will be divided in two: on the one hand thunderstorms, even violent ones and with the risk of hail, on the other hand a first African blaze capable of causing temperatures to rise well above 30°C. According to the forecasts of Antonio Sanò, founder of the website www.iLMeteo.it, from today a deep depression, driven by Atlantic currents, will rapidly cross central-northern Europe, arriving in the Mediterranean basin directly from the Rhone Gate. The entry of cold currents onto our seas will favor the formation of a cyclone destined to cause rain and thunderstorms in the north, in particular on Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May. Due to the entry of cold air at high altitude, extreme phenomena at a local level cannot be ruled out, such as tornadoes and hailstorms, given the strong contrasts that will be created in our country. There will not only be bad weather: due to the anti-clockwise rotation of the currents around the low depression, we expect the simultaneous rise of a very hot air mass of sub-tropical origin, directly from the Sahara desert, which will expand over all our central-southern regions. Temperatures are expected to be well above seasonal averages in these sectors, which could reach 35°C in Calabria and Puglia, touching the threshold of 38/40°C in the internal areas of Sicily. Italy will therefore likely find itself divided in two on the weather front: the north will suffer yet another strong wave of bad weather, while the south will experience fully summer days.
