The right engine of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner belonging to China’s Hainan Airlines caught fire shortly after takeoff from Rome Fiumicino Airport in Italy this morning, an Italian airport official said.
The aircraft, which was bound for the Chinese city of Shenzhen, returned to Fiumicino and landed safely after dumping its fuel in the sea.

The cause of the incident is not clear, the official said, stressing that there were no delays to air traffic over Fiumicino.
Hainan Airlines flight HU438, from Rome (FCO) to Shenzhen (SZX) was forced to return to FCOshortly after takeoff due to right engine issues. The flight was operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
