(Ecofin Agency) – At the end of March, Italy banned the use of Chat GPT citing a possible threat to users’ personal data. Canada has also opened an investigation into artificial intelligence.
In early April, Canada opened an investigation into OpenAI’s AI Chat GPT. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, an agency of Parliament mandated to protect privacy, launched the investigation following a complaint that personal data has been collected, used and disclosed without consent”.
“The privacy implications of AI technology are a priority for the OPC. We need to monitor the accelerating evolution of technological advancements, and even try to stay one step ahead”said Philippe Dufresne, the privacy commissioner, in a statement.
At the end of March, Italy also opened an investigation into OpenAI. The country accuses the Californian developer of Chat GPT of not respecting its legislation on personal data and of not providing a means of verifying the age of minor users.
