Italy. 70 thousand weddings canceled due to a pandemic

Due to the pandemic, around 70,000 weddings have been canceled in Italy, representatives of the country’s wedding industry said. In the coming days, a large fair was to be held in the area of ​​Caserta in southern Italy. They have been postponed to next year.

In March and April, i.e. at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis and in the months of the country’s closure, 17,000 weddings were canceled. The 50,000 ceremonies planned for October, November and December will also not take place, according to statistics presented by the president of the wedding fair, Marcello Damiano.

He recalled that this industry is one of the most affected in Italy as a result of the pandemic.

The president of the fair, Mia Sposa, noted that the turnover of this sector in the country amounts to EUR 15 billion a year, and 83,000 companies employing about a million people work in it.

The effect of new restrictions

The decision to cancel the 14th edition of the fair was finally made after the latest government decree limited the number of participants to the ceremony to 30, including weddings and weddings.

According to industry representatives, this will bring additional losses.

Especially many weddings were canceled in southern Italy.

Coronavirus in Italy

On Wednesday, it was reported that 127 people had died in Italy due to COVID-19 the previous day and more than 15,000 new infections were confirmed. This is the new peak in infections and a sharp increase in deaths. The most tests have been done so far: 177,000.

The number of deaths in the country since the beginning of the epidemic has increased to 36,832. So far, the coronavirus has been detected in almost 450,000 people, and over 257,000 have recovered. According to official data, 155,000 people are currently infected.

Due to the increase in coronavirus infections from Thursday to November 13 a curfew will apply in Lombardy. In this Italian region, it will be forbidden to leave the house at night and move without good reason. Similar restrictions will be introduced from Friday in the capital region of Lazio and Rome. For 30 days at night, it will be forbidden to move there without due cause.
