Italian-Venezuelan associations, ‘free political prisoners’

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 20 – Ten Italian-Venezuelan associations in Italy denounce the repression of the government of President Nicolás Maduro and call for action by the Italian government in a heartfelt appeal “for the immediate release of Italian and Venezuelan political prisoners” so that Italy recognizes the electoral truth”. In a statement, the associations “strongly express” their concern “for the tragic escalation of repression, violations of human rights and political persecution”. Among the missing Italians, the ten associations list Enzo Scarano, Williams Dávila, Rita Capriti and Americo De Grazia, to which are added the already known cases of Hugo Marino, Oreste Alfredo Schiavo and Juan Carlos Marrufo Capozzi”. In total, “according to cross-referenced data provided by various NGOs working in the field and reports from family members, there are about a hundred Italian-Venezuelan citizens detained or kidnapped by the repression and torture apparatus of the Chavista regime,” the associations say.
