In the French resort, she won with a lead of 44 hundredths ahead of the Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoffová Lie, another Italian downhiller Sofia Goggiová (+0.59) finished in third place.
Brignone coped best with the pitfalls of the challenging track. From the start, she went aggressively, choosing a bold line even in the technical corners, while constantly accelerating. She also slipped in the lower part and at the finish line she was 87 hundredths ahead of the previous leader, the Austrian Cornelia Hütterová. Finally, Goggiová and Lie got caught between them. Brignone achieved the 24th championship in her career in the SP, the ninth in the super giant slalom.
“It was almost a perfect ride. I really enjoy skiing at the moment, it’s my passion, I feel I still have something to show.” said the 33-year-old Italian woman, who already won two giant slaloms in Canada’s Mont Tremblant this winter, according to the APA agency.
Several favorites hesitated, the Swiss Lara Gutová-Behramiová and the New Zealander Alice Robinsonová dropped out after promising intermediate times in a difficult technical passage, the Italian Marta Bassinová and the SP leader Mikaela Shiffrinová did not finish the race either, as she missed one of the goals in the lower part.
The American leads the overall standings with only a 63-point advantage over Brignone. Jasmine Fluryová, the winner of Saturday’s race, also had big problems, the Swiss took eighth place.
Slovakia was not represented in the competition. Petra Vlhová missed the speed disciplines in St. Moritz and in Val d’Isere and will not return to the SP carousel until Thursday, when the evening slalom will be held in Courchevel, France.
