World Music
“Morabeza World Tour”, a concert of music skilfully served in the unifying register of World Music, was animated Saturday in Algiers, by the Italian singer Tosca who captivated the large audience with an anthology of songs in the festive spirit. Hosted at the Mahieddine-Bachtarzi National Theater (TNA), Tosca enchanted the public, for nearly two hours, with around twenty pieces of different genres, most of them taken from “Morabeza”, his latest product released in 2019.
A heterogeneous album, the result of a long experience across several countries of the world, “Morabeza” contains original compositions and covers of classic works of world music.
Sung in four languages, the different pieces of this new opus, open to interethnic mixing, were recorded as a duet, with world-renowned artists, such as Ivan Lins, Arnaldo Autunes, Cyrille Aimée, Luisa Sobral, Lenine , Awa Ly, Vincent Ségal, Lotfi Bouchnak and Cézar Mendes.
In an atmosphere of great evenings, Tosca was supported by an orchestra of five virtuoso musicians, Elisabetta Pasquale on double bass and vocals, Luca Scorziello on drums and percussion, Pino Iodice on acoustic guitar and Fabia Salvucci on vocals and percussion.
Among the songs sung by Tosca, “La mia Casa”, “La bocca sul cuore”, “Serenata”, “Piazza Grande”, “Mazzo”, “Giuramento”, “Vai saudade”, “Magnana”, “Volver”, “Morabeza”, “Africa + Curu undo”, and “Liberta”, thus evoking life, exile, friendship, love, peace, tolerance, humanism, nostalgia and solidarity.
Igniting the room from the first moments of the show, Tosca, who has already come to Algeria and collaborated with several Algerian artists, interacted a lot with the public who beat time with their hands by repeating in chorus some refrains of songs sung.
From the softness of the ballads, to the Latin-traditional rhythms of the Mediterranean, passing through the South American and then Eastern cadences, Tosca delivered a performance full of high quality, imprinted by the richness of the modal variations of the different genres of music, mounted on binary and ternary rhythms, thus allowing the meeting of the cultures of the world. Tosca’s surprise guest, Salim Dada, conductor, composer and fervent defender of Algerian musical heritage, joined the stage, guitar in hand, to first sing the Italian star on “Ahwak”, a famous piece from the late Egyptian singer, Abdelhalim Hafed (1929-1977), and then render, in the Raml El Maya mode, an istikhbar and the inqileb “Rit Erriyadh” (2001), brilliantly adapted to a sought-after polyphonic harmonization, as well as “The Mediterranean ballad (1999), greatly applauded by the audience. In the presence of representatives of the Italian Embassy in Algeria and those of various diplomatic missions accredited in Algeria, invited to this great evening, the public savored all the moments of the show in joy and delight.
Between quality creations in all genres of music and judiciously rearranged covers of famous compositions, Tosca, smiling and jovial, offered her space for expression, made new styles of music, to all the peoples of the world, inviting them to open up and come closer with respect and tolerance. Singer, actress and eclectic artist, Tiziana Tosca Donati is also a researcher passionate about experimentation.
From these different artistic facets will be born several projects, in addition to her numerous forays into the Social Theater as a screenwriter or actress.
She has nine studio and six live albums to her credit and has collaborated with renowned Italian and international artists, including Ivano Fossati, Nicola Piovani, Ennio Morricone, Chico Buerque, Riccardo Cocciante, Lucio Dalla, Renzo Arbore, Renato Zero , as well as Ron, with whom she was distinguished, in 1996, at the Sanremo Festival.
