Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni broke up with her partner, Andrea Giambruno, with whom she lived and is the father of her child. Meloni made this decision after the scandal caused by Giambruno’s behind-the-scenes footage.
Andrea Giambruno, the father of Meloni’s 7-year-old daughter, with whom she has been together for about 10 years, has become the most talked-about name of recent days due to the behind-the-scenes footage of the television program he hosts.
In the behind-the-scenes footage, Giambruno praises a female journalist in the studio with words that border on harassment, touches the hair of the woman who seems to be keeping her distance from him, and says things like “Why didn’t I know you before?” Meanwhile, he frequently touches his crotch and uses abusive language.
In another voice recording from behind the scenes, Giambruno can be heard asking a female colleague, “Do you have a boyfriend?” and then offering to “have a threesome.” Giambruno also says in this recording that he had a relationship with someone from the channel and everyone knew it.
These recordings of Meloni’s live-in partner were broadcast on a television program yesterday and the day before.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made a statement on social media this morning regarding the “first-man scandal”, which has become a major topic of discussion in the country. Meloni said, “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted about 10 years, ended here.”
Meloni also said that he and Giambruno had actually “parted ways for a while” and that now was the time to put this into action.
Published on the ruling partner’s channel
On the other hand, it was also noteworthy that Meloni used expressions in his message that seemed to target those who revealed his partner’s records. “Anyone who hopes to weaken me by shooting me from my house should know that even if a drop of water hopes to pierce a stone, the stone remains a stone and the drop is just water,” Meloni wrote.
Andrea Giambruno, 42, produces a TV program on the Mediaset channel owned by the family of former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. Giambruno’s behind-the-scenes recordings were also published in the satirical program “Striscia la Notizia” on Mediaset.
Berlusconi’s party, Haydi Italy, who died in June, is still a partner in the coalition government. Mediaset channel is also managed by Berlusconi’s son, Pier Silvio Berlusconi.
Meloni had previously defended his partner
Giambruno had previously caused controversy in the country due to the words he said on the news program he hosted. His statement that women should avoid getting drunk after a gang rape case that shook the country last summer drew great reaction. In addition, comments were made that he had become a source of embarrassment for the government with some of his statements on issues such as the climate crisis and relations with other countries.
Prime Minister Meloni, on the other hand, had stood behind his girlfriend until now. Last September, Meloni, while responding to journalists’ questions about the polemics created by the “first-man”, complained that “I have been asked to respond to everything Giambruno said for months” and argued that this was contrary to freedom of the press.
Meloni scolded the journalists and said, “I wonder how you interpret press freedom. In my opinion, what a journalist expresses on television is not the opinion of his wife. “I should not be held accountable for what that journalist said while doing his job, and that journalist should not be attacked just because he loves me,” he said.
