Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has suggested that the current escalation in the Middle East might not have happened if Russia had not carried out a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
She said this in an interview The newspaperreports “European Truth”.
According to Meloni, if Russia had not invaded Ukraine, then “most likely Hamas would not have carried out” the attack on Israel in October 2023, which led to the war in the Gaza Strip.
“Such a serious violation of the international rules-based system, moreover, by a permanent member of the UN Security Council, was bound to have a chain reaction for other regions of the world – from the Middle East to the Balkans and further to Africa,” she explained.
The Italian Prime Minister emphasized that without the restoration of international law, “outbreaks of conflicts will continue to multiply.”
Let us recall that Georgia Meloni visited Kyiv on February 24, where, commenting on the signing of a security cooperation agreement with Ukraine, she emphasized the need to continue military assistance for Kyiv.
“Confuse the commonly used word “peace” with “surrender”“the way they do it is a hypocritical approach that we will never share,” she said at a press conference.
The bilateral security agreement provides for maintaining the level of military assistance to Ukraine for 2024 and cooperation in various defense sectors.
