Italian Police Report: Increased Arrests and Seizures in 2024

Italian authorities announced​ a notable increase in law enforcement activity across the ‌nation’s railway system in 2024. The Ministry of the Interior reported a substantial rise in arrests and investigations compared to the previous year.

Over 4.34 million individuals underwent checks at Italian train stations during 2024. This proactive approach resulted in 1,147 arrests—a 24% surge from 2023 figures. Furthermore,11,440 individuals faced investigations,representing a 20% increase year-over-year.

The heightened security presence involved 32,199 officers deployed across the country’s rail network. A ‍dedicated effort ​targeting pickpockets yielded 10,432 operations, conducted both⁣ within stations and⁢ on trains themselves. These comprehensive ⁣checks led to the seizure of 253 weapons and over 50 kilograms ⁣of narcotics, along with the issuance of more than ​8,437 ‌fines.

Addressing‍ the⁤ issue of illegal immigration,Italian ⁢police conducted checks on 19,204 individuals at border ​stations and cross-border trains. This resulted in the identification of 739 ‌undocumented immigrants.
