With the collaboration of Italian Institute of Culture of Madrid and the Italian National Music Committee (CIDIM), he Fernando de Rojas Theater of the Círculo de Bellas Artes (calle del Marqués de Casa Riera, 2) presents the pianist’s concert Benedict Wolf next Sunday, January 21 at 7 p.m.
The Italian pianist Benedetto Lupo brings together in this recital two essential names of German Romanticism, also united by a friendship that arose when in September 1853 a young Brahms came to the house Schumann in Düsseldorff to show such an overflowing talent that Robert would immediately consecrate him in an article in which he considered him the “chosen one” they had been waiting for.
Two great cycles of the young Schumann of the 1930s, Children’s Scenes Op.15 and the Kreisleriana op.16 They are counterbalanced with two of the autumnal Brahms collections of the 90s. Youthful melancholy and exaltation, those two characters contrasted so many times in Schumann, are combined here with the naked, exquisite essentiality of Brahms who seemed to already say goodbye to life.
