PARIS – Italian footballer Marco Verratti signed a contract with Qatari Al-Arabi. This was announced on Wednesday by his new employer and former club Paris Saint-Germain. The French media reported that the reigning Ligue 1 champion will receive almost 50 million euros from the Qataris.

Al-Arabi posted a video on social media showing the midfielder in the club’s colors. The Parisians issued a statement thanking the 30-year-old Italian for his 11-year tenure at the Parc des Princes.

“He played a significant role in our great history,” said club president Nasser al-Khelaifi.

“Paris, the club and its supporters will always have a very special place in my heart. I will always be a Parisian,” AFP quoted Verratti as saying.

The Italian international won nine league titles and the French Cup six times with PSG. During his time in Paris, he was often troubled by injuries, in addition, he collected up to 141 yellow and 6 red cards. The new coach Luis Enrique did not count on his services. PSG did not receive any concrete offer from any of Europe’s big clubs, which could have been deterred by the high salary. Verratti has committed to the Qatari club until the end of June 2025.
