Juventus officially sentenced to a point deduction. Position Bianconeri also slipped from the order of three to number 10 in italian league standings.
Juventus was sentenced in a case of falsifying transfer fees and capital gains. The sanction was handed down by the Federal Court of Appeal, after receiving a request by the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) prosecutor to reopen the sports trial against Juventus.
Juve and a number of Italian clubs such as Sampdoria, Empoli, Genoa, Parma, Pisa, Pescara, Pro Vercelli and Novara were last year acquitted of similar charges. However, new evidence dragged Juventus back into this case and led to punishment.
The court imposed even more severe sanctions than the prosecutor’s demands, which only asked for a reduction of nine points. The club that owns the most Scudettos was punished with a 15 point deduction, which made them drop to 10th place in the standings this season.
Juventus, who actually have collected 37 points, now have to settle for 22 points from 18 matches. That puts them below Fiorentina (23) and ahead of Bologna and Empoli (22-less on goal difference).
Even though they have struggled to recover from a bad start, after only winning three matches in the first nine weeks. Massimiliano Allegri’s team then won eight successive wins until they were stopped by Napoli with a crushing 1-5 defeat last week.
