Club Brugge played European against an amputee Lazio last week. The Italian top club left many strongholds in the Italian capital, although no full explanation was given for their absence.
The Italian press reported that the coronavirus had hit Lazio sharply and that theory was confirmed last weekend: the Italian club announced that the entire selection would be quarantined after several infections.
The surprise was therefore great when, among others, Ciro Immobile was able to compete in the competition match against Torino last Sunday. The Prize Beast was one of the players who were – or so it was believed – by the virus.
Lazio communicated that the tests conducted against Torino a few hours before kick-off were negative, but the mystery is now getting a bit more complex.
Immobile has not traveled to St. Petersburg, where Lazio will play against Zenit in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. A positive test, conducted by UEFA, is said to be the basis of his absence.
The Italian Football Association wants to open the stinking well. “We are starting an investigation into suspected breaches of health protocols to prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” said a statement. The FIGC also requested the test results from UEFA.
