The American chain Domino’s Pizza is leaving Italy after seven years. The company has lost the competition of the traditional Italian pizzeria, writes news agency Bloomberg.
Domino’s Pizza has been active in the pizza and pasta world since 2015. The chain wanted to win the hearts of Italians there with modern toppings such as pineapple and by delivering the pizzas quickly. Domino’s hoped to open 880 stores, but that number was never reached. The last 29 were recently closed.
The company cites the corona pandemic as the reason for its decline. As a result, many old-fashioned pizzerias joined meal delivery companies like Deliveroo, to still get some money. When that playing field leveled, Domino’s lost the competition to traditional restaurants.
