Italian Commissioner: The pandemic situation is dramatic

The pandemic situation in Italy is “dramatic” in some respects, “the coronavirus has regained its strength,” said government sanitary crisis commissioner Domenico Arcuri on Thursday. He called on the Italians to move only when necessary.

On the day when there were 217 more deaths and over 26,000 new infections, the emergency commissioner warned: If the infection curve doesn’t go down, at the current figures, no health system, let alone Italian, can stand it.

At the press conference, Arcuri recalled that on October 7, the daily increase in infections was over 3,600, a week later – 7,000, and after two weeks – over 20,000.

The Commissioner expressed the opinion that further restrictions might be needed, but above all a sense of citizens’ ownership.

Further austerities are needed, and we must all move as little as possible. Up to 80 percent infections occur in the family, but someone brings the virus home Domenico Arcuri said.

Coronavirus is currently “circulating less in schools than elsewhere in the country,” he said.
