Italian Billionaire Family Behind Ferrero Company Receives 750 Million Euros in Dividends from Nutella Empire

The Italian billionaire family behind the Ferrero company, best known for Nutella chocolate, receives 750 million euros in dividends. This is evident from the annual accounts of the Schenkenberg holding company. This belongs to 75 percent of Giovanni Ferrero (59), the grandson of Nutella inventor Pietro Ferrero. The strong man of the family has lived in the Brussels area for years.

According to business newspaper ‘De Tijd’, the amount is included in Schenkenberg’s recently published annual accounts. The Italian family manages its confectionery empire with the Luxembourg holding above Ferrero International. The dividend is approximately the same as last year. Then it amounted to 765 million euros.

By paying out a dividend, a company distributes a portion of its profits among its shareholders. Since Giovanni Ferrero, who lives in Sint-Genesius-Rode, owns about 75 percent of the holding company, he may be entitled to three-quarters of the amount, worth almost 563 million euros.

Since the tragic death of his brother Pietro in 2015, Giovanni Ferrero has been alone at the head of the Nutella empire, which also owns the Ferrero Rocher, Tic Tac and Kinder chocolate brands. The company has 32 factories worldwide, almost 40,000 employees, is present in 170 countries and has a turnover of 12.7 billion euros.

Assets of 40 billion euros

The fortune of Giovanni Ferrero (58) is estimated at almost 40 billion euros, according to ‘Forbes’. He manages this in a maze of companies spread as far as the British Virgin Islands. However, the chocolate baron would have no interest in Ferraris, super yachts or private jets. He has a passion for traveling, especially in Africa, and for writing. He has already published several novels.
