Kinhasa (Congo)) Italy’s ambassador to the Congo Luca Atanasio (46) and an Italian police officer and driver were killed in an attack on a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping vehicle. Three other people in the vehicle were injured. The attack took place at 10.15 am in Goma. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack took place in the eastern part of Congo, where civil war is raging. Last year, 2,000 people were killed in the war. Democracy came to power in 2019 in a Central African country.
