Italian Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida stopped a delayed high-speed train so he could get off himself. Political opponents believe he should resign.
Lollobrigida was on a high-speed train from Rome to Naples. The train had already been delayed by 111 minutes, but still made a stop in the village of Ciampino, near Rome. The rail company says it has not led to additional delays or costs.
According to the minister, the train did not stop especially for him, and anyone who wanted to could get off. Yet the Italian newspaper reports Everyday occurrence that only Lollobrigida and two of his associates left the train. The minister then continued his journey by car.
Political opponents are now demanding the resignation of Lollobrigida, who is a member of Prime Minister Georgia Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia party. But the minister refuses that. “No, I am not resigning,” he replied to questions from journalists. “It wasn’t about going on vacation or visiting my family, it was about doing my job.”
