Ita Kozakeviča: The Symbol of Latvia’s Awakening in the New Film ‘My Freedom’

“For your freedom and ours!” – this famous Polish saying was once revived in Latvia by Ita Kozakeviča, one of the leaders of the Latvian Revival movement. Her contribution to Latvia is very significant, although her active political activity lasted only less than two years, because she passed away prematurely – at the age of 35.

It is Ita Kozakeviča who is the prototype of the main character Alicia in the new Ilze Kunga-Melgaile feature film “My freedom”, which is expected to premiere in September. In the role of the main character in the film, we will see the actress of the Daile Theater Erika Egli-Graveli. This week, on the other hand, the trailer of the film started its way to the audience.

A fragment from Ita Kozakeviča’s speech in 1990 in the Supreme Council is played. She was always bold, passionate and passionate in her speeches. Also as a personality – very bright and charismatic, in which feminine beauty was combined with the warmth of the heart and a sharp, analytical mind. She knew 15 languages. There was a Polish woman from Latvia, one of the symbols of our Awakening, who had great merits, ensuring the support of people of other nationalities living in Latvia for the restoration of our independence.

Ita Kozakeviča is the prototype for Alicia, the main character of the new feature film “My Freedom”. Director Ilze Kunga-Melgaile believes that this personality deserves to be specially highlighted and mentioned.

Ita Kozakevich’s active political career was very bright, but also very short, because at the age of 35 she died in Italy, during a foreign mission. Just under two active years are also the focus of the film, and that is the time from the end of 1988 to the fall of 1990.

In the film, we will see the actress of the Daile Theater Erika Egli-Graveli in the role of the main character Alicia.

Dainis Ivāns, the leader of the revival movement, collaborated with Ita Kozakevič during the People’s Front and believes that this cinematic testimony of him as a very powerful symbol of spiritual power is very important. Daini İvan is played by Mārtiņš Upenieks in the film.

The trailer of the film “My freedom” was released this week, but the premiere of the film will be on September 28 at “Forum Cinemas” and then also in cinemas throughout Latvia.
