Last week, colder air flowed into Latvia and it snowed in many places, so almost all over Latvia, Christmas was white and snowy.

Meteorologists point out that the weather will still be cold at the beginning of the last week of the year, but it will snow less. Current forecasts show that warmer air will flow into Latvia around the event – the air temperature will rise and the snow will start to melt.

Atmospheric pressure will rise slightly on Monday and Tuesday, leaving less snow and still freezing. It will snow mainly in the east of the country on Monday, where the thickness of the snow cover will increase by 2-4 centimeters. Visibility may deteriorate during snowfall, but drivers should be aware that roads are still slippery in many places.

The wind will be slow on Monday, the air temperature will be from -3 to -8 degrees, but on the coast from -2 to +3 degrees. As the sky clears, the air temperature can drop a few more degrees.

On Tuesday, the skies will clear and there will be some snow in the east at the beginning of the night. The wind will still be slow to moderate and will blow from the south, southeast – only during the day the wind will be more gusty. The air temperature on Tuesday night and day will be from -5 to -10 degrees, but on the coast from -2 to -7 degrees.

In the middle of the working week, the sky will mostly be covered with clouds and snow in places. A moderate south-east, east wind will dominate, on the coast it will be gusty. Air temperature at night and during the day will be from -3 degrees on the coast to -13 degrees in the east of the country.

Current forecasts show that at the end of 2021, warmer air will gradually enter Latvia – in many places the thermometer will rise above zero, thus thawing is expected. Meteorologists add that from time to time it will still have to take into account precipitation – both snow and wet snow and rain.
