If you need to change the battery in an Apple device, it’s now or never: Apple will soon raise the price of repairing batteries for its iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. This increase will take effect from 1 March 2023 and ranges from €24 to €60 depending on the vehicle.
Apple has quietly added a few lines detailing the upcoming changes to page battery repair for some of its products. The notice is located under its comparator allowing you to estimate the price of a repair, like here on the page dedicated to the iPhone :
The current out-of-warranty battery service fee will apply through the end of February 2023. Effective March 1, 2023, the out-of-warranty battery service fee will increase by €24 for all models of iPhones earlier than the iPhone 14.
If you currently have to pay €75 to change the battery of any iPhone ranging from X to 13 Pro Max, you will soon have to pay €99. For the underlying models (from iPhone 5S to 8 Plus via the three SEs), the operation currently costs €55: €79 will be invoiced from March 1st.
There is a change coming iPadsand will cost $40 more than today for the following iPad models: 12.9-inch iPad Pro (5th generation and earlier), 11-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation and earlier), 10.5-inch iPad Pro, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPad mini (6th generation and earlier), and iPad Air (5th generation and earlier). Replacing a tablet battery costs an average of €109, and will then rise to €149.
Increase in view also from the side Macand Apple doesn’t spare its latest devices. Prices for battery replacement will increase by €36 for all MacBook Air models and by €60 for all MacBooks and MacBook Pros. This will therefore be €185 for the former and €289 for computers dedicated to pros.
Of course, AppleCare+ contract holders will still not pay for their repairs under certain conditions. Parts prices don’t seem to have changed at the moment Apple dedicated site. Apple Watch and AirPods are unaffected by this increase. Note that the increase is global (iPhone batteries cost $30 in Canada, for example).
