Applications for the mobility incubator program are open until 31 May “Urban Mobility Incubator”, where participants will have the opportunity to develop their idea, prototype it in a real urban environment, meet investors, as well as receive support 6000 worth. The incubator is offered by the innovation movement “VEFRESH” in cooperation with the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, Riga City Council, the coworking space “Teikums” and with EIT Urban Mobility Support for a regional innovation scheme. Teams with ideas at different stages of development to ensure climate-neutral mobility are invited to apply for the program.

Participants are invited to submit ideas that address one of the climate-neutral mobility challenges defined by the city. For example, the promotion of electromobility and traffic calming zones or the development of a new generation of public transport stops or a single application. “The incubator program is designed for solutions that improve the city’s mobility opportunities. We are looking for teams with more serious work, as well as new teams with useful ideas and enthusiasm to develop their prototypes. In total, it is planned to host up to 8 teams, which from July to September will work on the development and testing of a prototype of their solution in the vicinity of VEF. According to the epidemiological situation in the country, the participants will work in the coworking space “Teikums” in the New Teikums or online, “emphasizes VEFRESH head Viesturs Celmiņš.

Participants will be supported in their daily work by internationally experienced business, technology and product sales mentors. Support for the involvement of the latest technological and scientific achievements will be provided by the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science. Modris Greitāns, Director of the Institute, explains: “The technological and scientific capacity that EDI intends to provide in this project will not only make it possible to understand whether the product is viable and feasible in a short period of time, but also increase the value of the developed prototype. Our institute has highly qualified specialists – researchers and engineers, as well as modern equipment available in the laboratories, which will provide invaluable added value to the incubator participants. ”

After the end of the 10-week program, safe testing of prototypes in the urban environment, at special testing points, will be provided by the Riga City Council, which in May also officially assumed that the VEF area is one of the three pilot areas in Riga. After the installation of prototypes, the participants of the incubator will present the solution to investors in the autumn in order to attract seed capital for further development of the product. Teams are invited to apply for participation in the incubator by filling in the application form www.urbanmolitity.io until 31 May. Also the innovation movement VEFRESH on its Facebook page May 24 at 17:00 will hold an online question and answer session to discuss any uncertainties and issues related to participating in the incubator.

It has already been reported that VEFRESH is an innovation movement that brought together the largest companies in the VEF neighborhood in 2019 to jointly develop the area as an urban innovation center. The participants and supporters of the movement are “Accenture Latvia”, Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, LMT, IT education fund, real estate developer “Pillar”, city in the city “Jaunā Teika”, as well as VEF Culture Palace.

This project is co-financed EIT Urban Mobility, An initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), which is European Union structure. The aim of the EIT Urban Mobility is to promote positive change in mobility to make cities more livable. More information www.eiturbanmobility.eu.
