We may not have realized it, but there was a real risk that Apple would delay the release of the iPhone 16 due to unfinished options Apple Intelligence. After all, it has happened before.
It is known that iOS 18 does not include any Apple Intelligence features. However, we were definitely expecting the iPhone 16 to be their main attraction right after it hits the market. Then there is the iOS 18.1 beta already underway, which will add Apple’s first AI capabilities to the iPhones. So could Apple wait with the sale of the iPhone 16 series and could it just give them iOS 18.1?

iPhones will do it, AI won’t
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has good news for anyone considering buying any model in the iPhone 16 series. Apple Intelligence will not be part of iOS 18, Apple will not delay the release of new models so that they can have the expected AI capabilities right out of the box. But it has done so before because it also did not have time to debug the hardware software.
This happened in 2011, when the iPhone 4S was pushed back from its initial release in June to October, in order to accommodate the availability of its two main features. At the time, these were Siri and iCloud. Now it will be Apple to copy its strategy of 2016, when it released the iPhone 7. It was the iPhone 7 Plus model that was supposed to be the first to be able to use Portrait mode, which it had also rightly requested, but it only got this key to work thanks to a software update in October. From October of this year, we also expect that Apple it will release the iOS 18.1 system, which already presents the first options Apple Intelligence will contain

On the one hand, this may pass Apple, but on the other hand, it may actually be a good strategic decision. The first is that customers may not be completely interested in the iPhone 16 because they will not have the desired features, or they may be disappointed not to have them. On the other hand, they will not receive any attention regarding the new hardware and the subsequent version of iOS 18.1. Apple Intelligence can determine the ideal time of the “second wave of interest” for the product itself and thus distribute sales evenly.
Apple also plans to gradually introduce AI features, in fact until mid-2025, in order to continue to feed this significant interest in the product without having to release new color variants. The presentation of the iPhone 16 will most likely take place on September 10.
