“For the third time, the new edition of this festival invites you on a culinary journey around the world with musical accents,” explains Maurice Dübjohann from Greven Marketing. “Over 20 food trucks with various specialties offer a wide range of culinary delights from Friday to Sunday – oriental, Mexican, American, French or perhaps German home cooking? The vendors have a diverse cuisine and create a holiday atmosphere with matching cool drinks and cocktails.” And the organizer Just Festivals also promises a varied music program on all three days with a party atmosphere, lounge beats, reggae and South American rhythms.
“Our City Festival is our oldest city festival, but it is not at all antiquated; in fact, it is more current than ever,” says Johann-Christoph Ottenjann from the Greven Advertising Association (GWG). He is very familiar with the historical development of Greven’s city festivals. Back in 1977, the main theme was ‘children and families’. “The very first children’s flea market turned Marktstrasse into a pedestrian zone for the first time during the city festival,” recalls Ottenjann.
And even after 47 years, the children’s flea market and the adventure box games are an integral part of the Greven retail trade, which invites people to enjoy a relaxed shopping experience in the city center on Sunday, September 15, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The smooth logistics are ensured not only by the free bus shuttle service, which runs every 30 minutes between Reckenfeld and Greven, but also by the many free parking spaces in the city center. “Without the financial support of sponsors, such a city festival would not be possible,” says Maurice Dübjohann, praising the efforts of the reliable major sponsors Stadtwerke and Kreissparkasse.
When it comes to high-quality children’s and youth work in a wide variety in Greven, the Abenteuerkiste is not far away. It has been a reliable partner for 25 years and will of course be there again at this city festival. “At Fritz-Pölking-Platz we not only offer children’s face painting and balloon animals, but also set up a completely new play equipment for knowledge and skill,” reveals Solve Senghove from the Abenteuerkiste.
But the classics of every city festival are not neglected either: the Greven Express miniature railway will once again reliably make its rounds. “And thanks to the exhibitors in Marktstrasse, the stage program with the city orchestra, singing and children’s dancing on the market square, the children’s flea market on Alte Münsterstrasse, the activities of the adventure box on Fritz-Pölking-Platz, the carousels on Niederort and the Street Food & Music Festival on Wilhelmsplatz, the entire city center can be explored in a circular route,” explains Christoph Ottenjann and draws his conclusion about the city festival: “A well-rounded affair!”
