20 times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer continues to have tennis fans waiting for his return to the court having not played a match since losing in the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon 2021. Federer suffered a knee injury during his time at the All-England Club and was forced to suffer a third knee injury after returning to the Tour a few months ago after already missing a year of action.
The surgery left Federer on crutches, but that didn’t stop Federer from being active in tennis as he made a surprise appearance at the Laver Cup 2021. It was the Swiss maestro’s last appearance at a tennis event as he now hopes to return to full form on the Tour during the 2022 season.
Roger recently attended the Super G race in Lenzerheide where he gave an interview to SRF Sport and spoke about his love for skiing as well as the decision to have another surgery. With a return expected in May, Roger could actually be skip Wimbledon 2022 this year and may not return until the second half of the season.
“But it was the right decision. The knee was not good at all after Wimbledon. I couldn’t go on like this. It was wonderful to watch the race here. I live just five minutes away. The other years, I was on the road. Finally, I did. Unfortunately, because of my knee. I always skied very fast and didn’t do a lot of turns.
“That’s why I haven’t skied since 2008. I was thinking of starting again after my career. 14 years later, I still haven’t skied. Mirka is skiing, the kids are skiing and I can’t wait to do it again. Roger said during the interview, again emphasizing the fact that the operation was necessary so that he could continue to lead a normal life once he was done with the sport professionally.
Roger Federer is expected to leave the Top 30 soon

Roger was ranked 8th in the world when he was beaten by Hubert Hurkacz at Wimbledon last year. Since then, his inactivity has caused him to drop in the rankings and is currently ranked 27th in the world. However, as he is slated for another few months away from action, he is expected to drop further in the rankings and could drop out of the Top 30 in a few weeks.
After being inactive in the clay season last season, he will lose more points in the golden swing it could also see him drop out of the Top 50. Federer hasn’t been ranked outside the Top 30 since 2001, a 21-year streak that could sadly come to an end soon.
