Dickey’s rescue took place in the framework of an international rescue operation, in which, in addition to Turkish organizations, Hungarian, Croatian, Italian, Bulgarian, Slovenian and Polish teams also participated. The surfacing began on Saturday afternoon.

The professional work of the team was carried out by dr. It was led by Zsófia Zádor, a doctor from the Hungarian Cave Rescue Service. The ambulance report revealed that
the Hungarian team is already safe,
they luckily reached the surface on Sunday.
“When they arrived, Mark was in a serious, life-threatening condition. During the life-saving medical intervention, high-dose drug protection of his stomach was started, the restoration of blood clotting factors was started, and the next day, when the blood and blood products provided by the Turkish organs arrived, he received a transfusion. The therapy had to be carried out in cave conditions, in a cold, basically damp and dusty environment – in such camp conditions that pre-heating of the blood could only be done with lukewarm water on a camp gas stove.
Thanks to the treatment, Mark got back on his feet, his complaints improved, and after a few days the idea that he might not need a stretcher to get to the surface seemed realistic.
Zudi stayed by the injured person’s side for days 0-24, not only monitoring his vital parameters, not only administering medication, but also trying to keep Mark and the worried companions in good spirits. He stayed with the patient until Friday, until he was replaced by a doctor from the professional Italian contingent who had arrived in the meantime.
