How did Oktagon promoter Ondřej Novotný accept the information that middleweight champion Patrik Kincl will not take part in the O2 arena in Prague after Karlos Vémola’s injury? And will we get paid for the final tournament of the year?
Octagon MMA solves unpleasant concerns
MMA’s largest national organization, Oktagon, is facing some really unfortunate concerns just weeks before the final tournament of the year. The main attraction of the gala evening between Karlos Vémola and Patrik Kincle was canceled due to an injury to the former.
The organization then approached several replacement stars to salvage the highly anticipated tournament. Among the fighters faced was no shortage of names such as former division title challenger Alexander Ilić, star Apollo and legendary Nate Diaz.
He even turned down a galactic offer of one million euros by European standards. Patrik Kincl has finally revealed his injury, which caused him to withdraw from the tournament himself, even though according to him he risked a match with Vémola despite his incomplete state of health.
Of course, the information put the Octagon’s management in an awkward position, because the tournament lost the most important match on the national scene at the moment.
Kincl also resigned after Vémol. How did promoter Novotný react?
How did Octagon’s promoter Ondřej Novotný react to champion Patrik Kincl’s withdrawal from the tournament? “It was a blow to all of us because you lose the title match, you lose fifty percent of the biggest draw,” Novotný described his feelings in the Letem MMA World Podcast.
“I think I was silent for about 15 seconds after such a long time because I didn’t expect it at all. I respect the fact that Patrik kicked him off the table, he himself probably lost the biggest money of his life on one game “. said the charismatic promoter, revealing that he also motivated Patrik financially.
Will we have news at Oktagon 38?
But the champion was adamant, so the organization was left with the only title match Magard vs. Macek 2. Novotný, however, revealed mysterious news that could at least freshen up the aforementioned tournament.
Initially, another rematch of the lightweight title fight between Losene Keita and Ron Paradeiser could have saved the tournament, but the Belgian champ swept the offer off the table. “So what we’re dealing with now is encounters that otherwise wouldn’t have occurred, classic underground or boxing between two people we generally like.” revealed Novotný.
“Or something surprising,” he added with a smile. Will we have a special surprise? The organization will reportedly announce the news soon, we will inform you about everything.
