Around twenty people clashed this Monday, November 25, 2024 at the end of the day in the heart of the village of Ille-sur-Têt, leading to the deployment of a large gendarmerie force.
Multiple calls landed this Monday at the end of the day on the emergency number of the police. According to residents of the center of Ille-sur-Têt, a fight had just broken out on the public highway between two groups of around twenty people. Some pursued the others from rue Lafayette to the big market equipped with pickaxe handles, baseball bats and other blunt objects. Detonations were also heard without anyone being able to say whether they were gunshots or not.
“It was incredibly violent. It felt like we were in a film,” say some witnesses who immediately holed up in their homes while the nearby medical center blocked its doors. At the same time, a very large police force was sent to the scene to surround the area. When the soldiers arrived, all the protagonists fled by car. With the exception of two slightly injured men, one of whom, who apparently received blows to the head, was treated by firefighters and transported to the hospital.
An investigation has been opened and investigations are beginning to try to find the perpetrators of the violence and shed light on this matter. According to the first elements, the confrontation broke out against a backdrop of settling of scores and money debt. At least it caused a stir within the village.
